Terre de Femmes-price to Turtle Watch!

Turtle Watch got a great piece of news last week; we have won the second price of Terre de Femmes-contest Nordic and we will receive a price of 3000 Euros. The price seremony will be held in Stockholm, Sweden, in early February. The first price went to Swedish Nathalie Simonsson for her project “Paradise Forest” which maps the vegetation in Papua New Guinea and helps local deaf children.

We also got some more fame for our project yesterday when, surprisingly enough, a film team shooting the reality show “Paratiisi” came to visit our turtles among with the Finnish tourists! They are doing a reality show about Finnish tourists in Phuket and were very interested about doing an episode about our turtle release event in January as well. The program will air on Sub TV in April so remember to watch it! The series mainly concentrates on the diving escapades of our collaboration partner Raya Divers.

Here the work continues as usual, our biggest challenge at the moment is to try and find a local person who would become the chairman of Turtle Watch Thailand, someone with a genuine interest in nature conservation (he/she has to be local if we want to register as a local organization)! Not a very easy task…
